Nancy was a teacher in the Livermore, CA school district. Among her many interests was genealogy and without her records on the Compton and Ward sides of the family a lot of this data would have been lost.

Nancy and Philip filed for divorce in August, 1966.

Notes:

Leonard enlisted in the army in 1917 at the beginning of WWII while still a junior at UC Berkeley, Berkeley, Ca.

He rose to the rank of Seargent and served 18 months in Europe. He was in the 91st Div. C 363rd (Infantry Chemical Warfare Division) and he saw action at St. Mehiel, Argonne, France.

After the war he graduated from UC Davis with a teaching degree and moved to Lemore, Ca. in 1923.

He retired as principal of Lemore High School in 1957.

He was very active in the Scottish Rite Tehran Temple, and numerous educational and civic organizations. He and Alpha had 3 children, one Doris died at 6 months. He and Alpha are buried at MT. View Cemetery in Oakland, CA.

Leonard married COFFIN, Alpha Mary 14 Aug 1922, Oakland, Alameda County, California. Alpha (daughter of COFFIN, Lorenzo Post and MOWRY, Addie Mark) was born 5 Sep 1894, Boise, Ada County, Idaho; died 4 Aug 1983, Sebastapol, Sonoma County, California. [Group Sheet]

Thomas owned and operated a bakery. He and Elizabeth had 6 children. Heand Elizabeth are buri ed at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Ca.

Thomas married RISDON, Elizabeth Eldridge 1881. Elizabeth (daughter of RISDON, Augustus David and ROE, Matilda) was born 2 Aug 1857, Decator, Illinois; died 25 May 1910, 538 32nd Saint Oakland, California. [Group Sheet]

Elizabeth was a 24 year old teacher in Santa Barbara, Ca. when shemarried Thomas Ward.

Lorenzo was a meat cutter by trade. He died from an accidental gunshotwound. He was buried i n Boise, Ada Co., Idaho. He was described as havingvery dark hair and a bright red beard.

Lorenzo married MOWRY, Addie Mark 2 Oct 1878, Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri. Addie (daughter of MOWRY, George and BURR, Lucinda) was born 2 Sep 1860, Joplin, Missouri; died 10 Aug 1951, San Bernadino, California. [Group Sheet]

Bartholomew went to Wellesly College 1 year intending to become aMethodist preacher. He was c alled Thol by friends. He demolished the homehis father built on Ridgepole Rd. and built hi s own there. He fought withthe 101 militia of Middlefield, MA from 1847 to 1854. He was a str ongdemocrat and was postmaster from mid 1857 to 1859.

Bartholomew married SLOCUM, Rachel Jane 1849. Rachel (daughter of BETTS, David and JAMES, Rachel Jane) was born 4 Feb 1820, Newbury Port, Massachusetts.; died 8 Dec 1912, Oakland, Alameda County, California. [Group Sheet]

Rachel authored a book about "Grandmother Slocum's Stories". She moved toSan Francisco, Ca. s hortly after Bartholomew's death with her 3 children.She is buried at Mountain View Cemetery , Oakland, Ca.

OBITUARY:
DEATH CLAIMS A VICTIM. Dr. A. D. Risdon Dies, Suddenly and Without Warning, of Neuralgia of the Heart.
Just before three o'clock yesterday afternoon the announcement came that Dr. A. D. Risdon was dead. As he had not been ill the news was startling and unexpected, but proved only too true.
Dr. Risdon had been suffering for several days from a cold, and Tuesday symptoms of neuralgia, as he thought it, developed. Dr. Curtis was consulted and the patient seemed better. Yesterday morning he visited some of his patients in the city, returning home at noon, suffering again from neuralgia. Dr. Curtis called at one o'clock and upon leaving was informed by the sufferer that he was resting easy and in no pain. But at about 2:40 yesterday afternoon he was taken suddenly worse and died after five minutes, before medical aid could arrive. Dr. Curtis was sent for, but when he arrived Dr. Risdon was dead, the neuralgia having gone to the heart, resulting in his almost instant death.
The deceased, Dr. Augustus D. Risdon, was born at Mt. Morris, N. Y., June 2, 1826, and was consequently over 63 years of age. One son and two daughters survive him, all living in California except Miss Ada, who was with him when he died. He also has three brothers and two sisters residing in California. They have been informed of his death and one of the daughters is expected up from her home in Oakland in the morning to attend the funeral Friday.
Dr. Risdon came to Salem, in June 1882, and has many friends here.

DR. RISDON'S FUNERAL.
The funeral of Dr. A.D. Risdon will be conducted from his home on Court street at one o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The remains will be interred in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery. A sister, brother and daughter of the deceased are expected up from California this morning or tomorrow to attend the funeral.
