    Notes:

    Said to have been "of Vermont" in "The History of St. Lawrence Co., New York" by Gates. The text was in reference to his daughter Prudy (Prudence) who married Joshua Brundage and ultimately moved to Aleegan Co., Michigan.

    The 1850 census finds David (68) and Polly (64) living in the home of his son Rufus C. Barto in Burlington, Chittenden Co., Vermont.
    Both Rufus and David stated they were farmers.

    The couple shows up later in the 1860 Michigan census (misspelled Barton). David, in the1860 census stated he was 78, a farmer, and his middle initial was W. The value of his land was $1,000 and personal property was $400. Polly stated she was 74 and was born in Connecticut.

    David's grave is located in East Cooper Cemetery, Cooper, Kalamazoo Co., Michigan.

    In the name of God, Amen, July 31, 1732. I, NATHANIEL WILLIAMS, of Huntington, in Suffolk County, being very sick. I leave to my wife Elizabeth, 1/3 of my movable estate, and 1/3 of the remainder, after payment of debts. All my negro slaves are to be sold, except my negro man "Tanton." Also 13 1/2 acres of land adjoining the land of Henry Titus, which is to be sold by vendue. Of the proceeds, 1/3 is to be paid to my wife, and 2/3 to my daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth, and I also leave to them 2/3 of the movables when they are 18 years of age. I leave to my sons, Nathaniel and Jonas, all my lands, meadows, and tenements, when of age. "And whereas there may be some ground to imagine that my beloved wife Elizabeth may be with child, If it please God that it be a son, he shall have an equal share with the other sons; and if a daughter, then an equal share with the other daughters." My two sons are to pay to my two daughters €20, and my wife is to have the use of all lands, until my sons are of age.

    Zachariah appears in the 1820 census living in Charlotte, Caledonia Co., Vermont.

    Mr. Sanford was a tanner and currier and shoemaker, a devoted Christian man.
    In 1821 the family removed from Vermont to Canton, N. Y., where they remained until 1843. In that year they removed, being past eighty years of age, to Seneca, McHenry Co., Illinois.
    They made the entire journey overland, in an open buggy and were accompanied by their three sons and their families in covered wagons.
    Upon arrival in Illinois Mr. Sanford planted a peach orchard.
    They were earnest and devout members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and lived to see twelve of their children enter the same Communion.

    "Her hands were never idle. She sat at the old family loom weaving her ten yards of cloth in one day, or spun wool, or tow at the great wheel, or sat singing at the little wheel, spinning linen from the flax on the distaff with both hands, as her wheel carried two spools filling at the same time, thus doing two days' work in one.
    At the time of Mr. Sanford's death they had been married sixty-six years and at this time there were thirteen of their fifteen children living, and one hundred fifty seven grand and great grandchildren.
    They had fifteen children, the first ten all born in New Milford, Ct., and the last five in Hinesburg, Vt."

    1. Benjamin Barto, of Nine Partners, removed to Hinesburg, Vermont, before the war. He m. Mary Williams, and had, (besides several das.) three sons, Gilbert, John and David, all of Hinesburg.

    3. Samuel Barto, settled at Dorset, Vermont; left an only son, Francis, b. 1769, settled at Champon, Jefferson co., N. Y., and left das.

    4. William Barto, b. 1748, moved in 1798 to the town of Cincinnatus, N. Y., where he d. March 25, 1825. He m. 1st. * * * Conklin, and had two das. He m. 2dly, 1769, Lucy Robinson, of Windham, Conn., who d. in 1792, and had six children: 1. Thomas Barto, b. 1770, of whom presently. 2. Moses Barto, m. in 1804, Clarissa Crain, by whom he had Henry, William, James, Fayette, and others.

    The best place in history to begin this story would be in the village of Tiverton, in the County of Devon, England in the year 1727. This was the year that Quinton and Mary Patch were born. Information prior to this date is hazy and needs further study before a firm direction can be taken concerning Quinton and Mary's ancestors. . . . We do know however, that the parents of Quinton and Mary passed away sometime before 1740. At an early age the twins were brought to America, the Colonies, by their foster parents, who settled in Stamford, Connecticut...."
