      Francisco Duran y Chavez married Juana Baca, "the younger", daughter of Juana Baca, "the Elder". In his brother Pedro's will he is mentioned as having adopted Pedro's three minor children by his first wife.

      He and Juana Baca had at least eight children: Miguel Antonio, born November 26, 1735, who married Francisca Baca, August 28, 1781; Jose Vicente, born February 14, 1730; Agustine, who died young on January 7, 741; Ignacio, who married Gregoria Maese, and then Ursula Sanchez in 1770; Margarita, born January 3, 1734, who married Salvador Garcia in 1761; Juana, born January 10, 1744; Maria, who died young on May 9, 1744; and Lucia, very likely the child of his brother, Pedro, who became the wife of Miguel Montoya.

      Fernando Duran y Chavez II, married Lucia Hurtado de Salas. Theseindividuals had ten children together and Fernando had a natural daughterby another woman. The children were:
      Isabela Duran y Chavez, who was born in 1679, married Jacinto Pelaez in1700 and then Baltazar de Mata in 1705 and lastly to Eusebio Real deAguliar in 1718.
      Maria Duran y Chavez, who was born in 1688, married Antonio Ulibarri in1710.
      Catalina Duran y Chavez, who was born in 1691, married Matias Miranda in1711.
      Clara Duran y Chavez married Juan de la Mora Pineda.
      Bernardino Duran y Chavez, who was born in 1676, married franciscaMiziquia in 1699.
      Pedro Duran y Chavez, the elder, was born in 1677, and married JuanaMontoya in 1703, and then Gertrudis Sanchez in 1728.

      Francisco Chavez (most likely Francisco Durán y Chavez who was thehusband of Juana Baca) was baptized at Guadalupe del Paso on 21 December1681, and was a son of don Fernando de Chavez and doña Luisa (sic Lucía)de Salazar. His padrinos were Bartolome Gómez and doña Teresa Varela.

      This young lady, [Barbara Montoya] fourteen, the child of the capitan DonMiguel Montoya, deceased, and Dona Lucia Duran y Chavez, was asked for inmarriage by Juan Antonio "Baca", thirty-two and an espanol of Atrisco,the son of Antonia Baca (And Antonio Chavez, long dead0. So that theycould be dispensed a first and second cousins, it was revealed that thegrooms's mother was the sister of Juana Baca, the mother of Lucia Chavez.This is where we learn that Lucia was the actual daughter of FranciscoDuran y Chavez, and not, as I [Fray Angelico Chavez, author] had oncesupposed, the "Luisa" of his brother Pedro whom he had adopted when Pedroremarried in 1728.

      In 1781, Lucia's daughter Barbara Montoya, widowed of her husband AntonioBaca (Chavez), married another second cousin named Manuel Lucero of LosPadillas. He was the son of Miguel Lucero and Rosa Baca, both of themdeceased, and first had been married to a Teresa Chavez, daughter of ayounger Francisco duran y Chavez and his wife Manuela Padilla. Barbaraand Manuel Lucero had a daughter, Manuela Lucero, who married a PabloBaca in 1803.

      Maria Isidora Chavez, when she married in 1760, was identified as DonaMaria Isidora Duran y Chavez, sepanola, daughter of the Capitan DonFrancisco Duran y Chavez, deceased, and Dona Juan Baca, while the groomwas simply Isidro Antonio Maese, espanol and fifteen, a soldier of SantaFe and the son of the sargent Bartolome Maese and Juana Valerio, decease.At least she did not wed a relative.
