Notes - Joseph was a blacksmith by trade, and was the inventor and patentee of the first plough with an iron mouldboard.
In 1800 he engaged in the manufacture of the ploughs and pumps with his brother Robert.
In 1802 he removed to Smithtown and erected dwellings and shops. He continued manufacturing until his death in 1826.
It was in Joseph's shops that anthracite coal was first used for fuel in about 1812.

Joseph was the executor for his father's Will.
