Notes - Ellen Kellet b. 1665 in C(h)artmel. She married John Smith 22 Feb. 1686 in Chaigley. John Smith died in 1699 on the "Britania" on the way to Bucks Co, PA. Ellen survived and married John Merrick, with whom she is an ancestor of US Pres Herbert Hoover.

Nothing is known concerning Ellen's nativity and her parents. She is supposed to have come from the Kellets of Cartmel, Lancashire, England, who at that time were numerous in that county. Kellet is an ancient name, they being descended from Orm, a Saxon, who owned the manor of Kellet in Lancashire in the 11th century." (from the collection of Charles F. Jenkins, 1946).
