  He was a sergeant in the militia and was made a freeman in 1676. - He died before February 1, 1725/6, when administration of his estate was granted to his widow Mary and eldest son, Samuel. Administration records mention only Hannah Gridley and sons Samuel, John, Nehemiah, Nathan and Josiah; the other children had probably died by that time. In June 1726, Samuel Jr. asked the court for extra money for serving his father seven years after the age of 21, but this was "resisted" by his mother and not approved by the court.
