    • Joseph Van Sant b. abt. 1788, married Elizabeth Pollack b. 1798. They resided most of their lives in Russell, St. Lawrence Co., New York and are buried there.

      Joseph was one of the first 3 settlers in Monterey (Degrasse), St. Lawrence Co., New York.
      -
      He fought in the War of 1812 and is in the "Index of Awards". From a list of War of 1812 Pensioners; Van Sant, Joseph (Pension Certificate #7767), served in Capt. Jeremiah Browns co. of the New York militia as a private. He was drafted into the Militia at Carlisle, Schoharie Co., NY September 12 or 20, 1814. He fought with a group of volunteer's from Troy, New York, and helped guard the food (meat) at French Mill's on the St. Regis Indian Reservation. He served at the battle of Plattsburg, and was discharged at Plattsburg on on December 12 or 18, 1814, having served 92 days.

      Joseph stated he had received a 160 acres land warrant for his service in the War of 1812.
