  John was born about the same time the War of Independence broke out. From census records we believe he was born in Virginia and moved to Kentucky about the time he and Martha were married. Sometime between 1821 and 1830 John moved his family to Indiana. - The1830 census: Putnam Co., Indiana (p. 438?). John Williams Males: 1 age 5-9 (John 1820-1825) 1 age 15-19 (Dennis 1810-1820) 1 age 50-60 (John 1770-1780) Females: 1 age 10-14 (Celia 1815-1820) 1 age 15-19 (? 1810-1815) 1 age 20-30 (Emily 1800-1810) 1 age 40-50 (Martha 1780-1790) - John made some Putnam Co., Indiana land purchases in 1834 and 1835. - The1840 census finds John sr. living in Greencastle, Putnam Co., Indiana (p. 379). John Williams sr. Males 1 age 60-70 Females 1 age 5-10 1 age 15-20 1 age 60-70 John's son, John Jr., was nearby on the same census sheet. - John and his wife Martha appear on the 1850 census living in Madison Township, Putnam Co., Indiana. John Williams, age 74, male, farmer, $800 of real estate, b. VA, can't read or write. Martha Williams, 68, female, b. VA, can't read or write. Sarah Williams, 30, female, b. KY, can't read or write. America Williams, 18, female, b. IN. (Son John and his young family were next door). - The 1860 census Warren Township, Putnam Co., Indiana, indicates John had passed away, and Martha, age 80, was living in the home of her daughter America, who had married Jonathan Sears, some 8 years earlier. Also America's sister Sarah (Celia) Williams age 40 was there.
