    • Silas was a Methodist Minister.

      Rev. Silas R. Snapp grew up near Slanes Crossroads, Hampshire County, West Virginia.
      With the outbreak of the war between the North and the South he espoused the cause of the Confederacy, and subsequently entered it's army, but did not see active service.
      A man of fine mentality, although given but few educational opportunities, he studied by himself to such good effect that In 1868 he entered the Methodist Conference of West Virginia, and subsequently that of the Baltimore Southern Methodist Conference, continuing with the latter until his death, which occurred. in March, 1895, when he was about sixty-five years old.
      During the many years he was in the ministry he was stationed at different points In Virginia, and spent some time at Port Republic, where his son Robert completed his high school training.

      There is a record of a S.R. Snapp who entered the 51st. Virginia Militia, Co. D, as a Private, and left as a 1st. Seargent.
