  John was born in Oregon and moved to as a young boy with the rest of his family to Red Bluff, Tehama Co., California. - His father John Levi began an almond ranching business in Durham, Butte Co., California in about 1925 which was followed by John and his brother Lester for many years. - He married Alta Cantwell and had a daughter LaDonna Briggs, and a son John Levi Briggs. After some years the marriage didn't work and they divorced. - John then married Alta May Kelly and the couple had two children Jimmy Franklin Briggs and Leona Marie Briggs. John continued on the farm and struggled through several other marriages. - He eventually sold the farm and moved to the Chico area where he lived the remainder of his years. His funeral brought together family from many places and reunited cousins and other family members who hadn't seen each other for years. - John's obituary appeard in the Chico Enterprise Record Newspaper on January 23, 1998.
