  Raymond was a marine POW in WWII for 3 1/2 years and was a 20 year veteran since he went back into the army in 1947/48 to complete his 20 years. His father is recorded as having been born in Wisconsin. His parents divorced sometime between 1918 and 1920, as his mother appears on the 1920 census in the home of her mother and step-father, indicating she was divorced. Raymond's mother indicated on the 1920 census that her 3 children were born in Iowa, however on the 1930 census she shows only the oldest as being born in Iowa, and the younger 2 children including Raymond are said to have been born in Montana. By 1930 Raymond's mother appears to have married a Swedish man by the name of (Morgan) G.
