  After the birth of their 2nd. child they headed out by covered wagon westward on the Lewis & Clark trail to Clearwater River, Idaho, and settled on a Nez-Perce Indian reservation. John was known as "Judge of the Tribe", as he was the Justice of the peace for the Indians.
