Notes - On the 1900 Tehama Co., CA census Martha stated she had given birth to 12 children 6 of whom survived to the year 1900. She also stated she could read but not write.
-
By the 1910 census, Martha had lost her husband Henry and was living in Sutter Township, Sutter Co., California with her youngest daughter;
Sylvia, age 35, and two grandchildren;
Mary A., age 10 and
George, age 9 (presumably her son Henry's children).
Martha went on to state her father was born in Scotland, her mother in New Jersey. Martha stated she had 13 children 6 of whom were still living. The family was living on Clay (or Ely) Street. (E.D. 171, Sheet 17 B, May 10, 1910).
-
According to her death certificate Martha was born in Scotland and immigrated to the U.S. at a very young age as her certificate stated she had been in the U.S. 89 of her 90 years. It went on to state she was in California for 57 years prior to her death, which calculates to an 1871 arrival date. She also had been in the Sacramento area for 17 years, which would have her taking up residence there in 1911. At the time of her death she had apparently been living with the family of her daughter Myrtle Stanley at 2621 Y St., Sacramento, California. The 1920 census shows Myrtle's family at this residence, however Martha was not yet there.
-
Martha's Obituary was published on both Tuesday, January 24th and Wednesday the 25th. The obituaries were identical with the exception that the obit. of the 25th indicated where Martha was to be buried and what time.
Sacramento Bee Newspaper, dated: January 25, 1928.
