  John seems to have purchased land in Tehama Co. on Sept. 26, 1877. - John and Alice appear on the 1880 census in Tehama Twp., Tehama Co., CA. next door to his older brother Joshua and his family. For reasons unknown John indicated his birthplace as Wisconsin. - The 1900 census taken at Sutter Township, South Butte, Sutter Co., California, shows John and his wife of 26 years Alice A. she was born in Florida as were her parents. The couple was childless however they had adopted a daughter by the name of Rosa Lott, age 19. John was a farmer at the time. - The 1910 census shows John and his wife Alice living in Sutter Township, Sutter Co., Ca. where he was engaged in farming.
