This file states he was born in New Jersey and was shown as a farmer in Corning, Tehama Co., California in 1902 and that he died in Red Bluff February 4, 1907. This file also contains a Joshua Sands Stevens who was also born in New Jersey about 1840, this man was Henry's older brother.

Henry married Martha A. Abt 1866, New Jersey. Martha was born Mar 1838, Scotland; died 24 Jan 1928, Sacramento, Sacramento County, California. [Group Sheet]

  2. 7.  Martha A. was born Mar 1838, Scotland; died 24 Jan 1928, Sacramento, Sacramento County, California.

    -
According to her death certificate Martha was born in Scotland and immigrated to the U.S. at a very young age as her certificate stated she had been in the U.S. 89 of her 90 years. It went on to state she was in California for 57 years prior to her death, which calculates to an 1871 arrival date. She also had been in the Sacramento area for 17 years, which would have her taking up residence there in 1911. At the time of her death she had apparently been living with the family of her daughter Myrtle Stanley at 2621 Y St., Sacramento, California. The 1920 census shows Myrtle's family at this residence, however Martha was not yet there.

Martha's Obituary was published on both Tuesday, January 24th and Wednesday the 25th. The obituaries were identical with the exception that the obit. of the 25th indicated where Martha was to be buried and what time.
