    Hon. Henry Marquand, prosecuting attorney of Osage County, was born in Coshocto n County, Ohio, in 1837, and is a son of John and Martha (Parker) Marquand. Joh n Marquand was born on the Isle of Guernsey, which is situated in the English C hannel,
    where he was reared and grew to maturity, and then, in company with hi s brother Charles and three cousins, immigrated to the United States. The two b rothers located in Coshocton County, Ohio, where John married and spent the rem ainder of his
    life, his death occurring in middle life, about the year 1839. T he mother of our subject was a native of Virginia, and removed with her parents , John and Elizabeth Parker, to Coshocton County, Ohio, where she died in 1847. Henry Marquand
    received his education at the common schools and at West Bedfo rd Academy, after which he engaged in teaching and farming for several years. I n 1857 he went to Chamois, Osage County, MO, where he taught six months, and th e following three years
    was employed as a clerk in the store of Wheeler & Knot t. In 1861 he returned to his native county and married Jemima, daughter of Lem uel and Jemima (Turner) Richards, natives of Maryland, who removed to West Bedf ord, Ohio, where the mother died
    about 1879; the father died in Osage County, MO in 1885. Mrs. Marquand was born in Harrison County, Ohio, in 1840. Two child ren have blessed this union, Charles R. and Grace E. After his marriages Mr. Ma rquand clerked one year, and then
    enlisted in Company F, Ninety-seventh Ohio V olunteer Infantry; he was promoted to corporal and sergeant, and mustered out a t Columbus, Ohio, in June 1865, as quartermaster-sergeant. He participated in t he battles of La Vergne, Murfreesboro,
    Chattanooga, Mission Ridge, siege of Kn oxville, Kenesaw Mountain, Resaca, Franklin, Nashville and others. Returning to Ohio at the close of the war, he soon afterward removed to Chamois, Osage Co., MO, and became a member of the mercantile firm
    of Marquand & Shobe, afterward Knott & Marquand, and later known as Mason & Marquand, until 1869. He then eng aged in teaching, and in 1870 was elected county school superintendent. In 1872 he was elected to represent Osage County in the State
    Legislature, and was th e first Republican ever elected in Osage County to the Legislature, and from 18 75 to 1878 was a member of the firm of Ramsey & Marquand. In 1879 he was admitt ed to the Osage County bar, since which time he has devoted his
    principal atte ntion to the practice of the legal profession, and is one of the leading attorn eys of the county. Mr. Marquand was appointed postmaster of Chamois in 1879, in which capacity he served until 1885. Since the organization of the
    Chamois Mu tual Saving Fund, Loan and Building Association, in 1882, he has been secretary . He is a Republican in politics, and is a member of the A.F.&A.M. Mr. and Mrs. Marquand have been members of the Methodist Church for over thirty years,
    and are well-known and highly respected citizens of Chamois. Mr. Marquand is now s erving his third term as prosecuting attorney of the county, having been first elected to that position in 1884, his second re-election occurring in 1888.
