Settled in Va. before 1623 on the Eastbank of the Elizabeth River near the present Parish of Norfolk.

He had a large tract of land and several white servants. He received a grant of land in 1638 (150 acres).

He removed from Virginia to Maryland in 1649.

He and his family lived around Annapolis.

1652 to Mathew Howard for killing onewolf: 100 lb. tobac co;
and Cornelius Howard to collect taxes for the Western Branch in the Elizabeth River and to pay 100 lb. tobacco.

From Maryland and Va. Colonials: Matthew returned to Va. to get thefamily and died before ret urning thus losing his Md. land.Matthew may have been the son of Sir Thomas Arundel, who was beheaded and his estates confiscated. He assumed his mother's name (Howard) and emigrated. Or Matthew may have been a descendant of the John Howard who came to this country in 1621 and was killed by the Indians.
Whatever his lineage, Matthew and his first wife Margaret settled in Virginia before 1623 on the East bank of the Elizabeth River near the present Parish of Norfolk.

He received a grant of land in 1638, and became a large landowner.
He removed from Virginia to Anne Arundel County, Maryland, in 1649.
In 1652 Mathew Howard (could be the son) was fined 100 lb. tobacco for killing one wolf. He and his family lived around Annapolis.
