  3. 6.  WARD, Leonard Risdon was born 8 Apr 1892, Alameda, Alameda County, California (son of WARD, Thomas Warner and RISDON, Elizabeth Eldridge); died 2 Apr 1971, Fresno, Fresno County, California.

    Notes:

    Leonard enlisted in the army in 1917 at the beginning of WWII while still a junior at UC Berkeley, Berkeley, Ca.

    He rose to the rank of Seargent and served 18 months in Europe. He was in the 91st Div. C 363rd (Infantry Chemical Warfare Division) and he saw action at St. Mehiel, Argonne, France.

    After the war he graduated from UC Davis with a teaching degree and moved to Lemore, Ca. in 1923.

    He retired as principal of Lemore High School in 1957.

    He was very active in the Scottish Rite Tehran Temple, and numerous educational and civic organizations. He and Alpha had 3 children, one Doris died at 6 months. He and Alpha are buried at MT. View Cemetery in Oakland, CA.

    George Jr. trained quarter horses, and show horses & jumpers in Kentucky, apparently he made quite a bit of money doing so.
    He was a US ArmyQuarter Master & Stable Sergeant in WWI in charge of horses.
    George ended up being gassed by the German's at Argonne, France.
    He later returned tothe US and lost a lot of money when the 1929 depression struck.
