Pedro de Cedillo was a native of Quertaro who arrived in New Mexico inthe second half of th e century. By 1680 he was a captain living in theRio Abajo district. He escaped the Indian Re bellion with his family. Hegave his age at "about seventy" in 1681, declaring that he had on e grownson, twenty years old and ready to serve as a soldier, and eight otherchildren. His wi fe was Isabel López de Gracia, and the full family namewas Cedillo Rico de Rojas," as we lear n from the marriages of theirchildren after the Reconquest Pedro de Cedillo could well have r eturnedto New Mexico with the Reconquest. He was listed as a member of theConquistadora Confr aternity in 1689. His wife, Isabel López de Gracia,was alone mentioned as dead in 1692 whe n a daughter got married; but in1698 both parents were referred to as deceased when a son go t married.Their known children were: Isable, who married Juan Varela Jarmillo anSan Lorenzo d el Paso in 1692; Casilda, wife of Cristobal Jarmillo;Filipa, married to Francisco Anaya Alma z n; and the sons, Joaquin, Juanand Pedro. Of this younger Pedro nothing is know except tha t he wastwenty years old in 1694, and worked on the re-building of the San Miguelchapel in 17 10.
