  4. 7.  HOGUE, Mary was born Aft 1689 (daughter of HOGE, William and HUME, Barbara); died Bef Mar 1755, Prince William County, Virginia.

    Notes:

Mary Hogue married Mark Hardin about 1709 in Prince William Co.,Virginia. Land records indicate that Mark Hardin's wife was named Mary. A long standing family tradition states that her maiden name was Hogue, however, no actual record of her antecedents has been found. Information presented in the Hardin Family History strongly suggests that Mark Hardin was already married to his wife, Mary, when he made his first land purchase in Northumberland County, Virginia. This suggests that he wasmarried prior to his arrival in Virginia. Thus, to date, no hard proof has been found that indicates Mary's surname was in fact "Hogue".

    Notes:

Martin Hardin (asa Hardewyn) was born before 1650 (possibly 1645). He was probably born in France, but possibly in Fordham, Suffolk Co, NY. On 05Mar1671 (or same date in 1669 or 1670), possibly in DRC New York, New York he married Madeleine Du Sauchoy. Very little evidence, but strong family tradition states that Martin was born in Rouen, France and emmigrated to US some time after the marriage. Nonetheless, it is accepted that both the Hardin and Du Sauchoy families were French Huguenots. They had five known children:
    Abraham Hardin (twin, christened 15May1673)
    Issac Hardin (twin, christened 15May1673)
    Elizabeth [Lysbeth] Hardin (christened 19Feb1676)
    Jacob Hardin (ch 13Mar1678)
    Marcus Hardin (ch 26Mar1681)
Martin Hardin is believed to have died c1706 in the part of King George County, VA which later became Prince William County. Burial information is unkown.
    -
Martin Hardin was living in Fordham in 1671. On March 2, 1676, Magdaleen de Souson , wife of Martin Hardewyn was admitted to the Dutch Church in New York. By 1680 Martin Hardin had moved to Staten Island , for on Feb. 7, 1680, he sued Charles Smith there for debts. 1681 is the last year that Martin Hardin appears in the records of Staten island.
    -
It is possible that he moved prior to 1700 to New Jersey, for a Martin Hardin ( possibly a 6th child) married Hannah Hunt Jan. 4, 1714, at Christ Church, Philidelphia, and on Dec. 29, 1719, was one of
the men who inventoried the estate of Samuel Hunt, decd. of Maidenhead, Hunterdon Co. N. J.
    -
This same Martin Hardin, probably a brother of Mark who came to Virginia, made his will June 10, 1764, in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, mentioning his wife Catherine (probably a second wife) sons Martin and Samuel, and daughters Susannah Swerthorn and Anne Tomson. A son Thomas had preceeded him, leaving a will April 8, 1755.

    Notes:

"William Hoge , distinguished in state and church, came to America in 1682, He was the son of Sir James Hoge of Scotland, who lived in Mlussleburg near Glasco. On board the Caledonia, the vessel that brought him over, was a family named Hume, consisting of a father , mother and daughter. They were Presbyterians, leaving Scotland to avoid the persecution.
    -
The Humes were from Paisley Scotland. The father was a knight and a Baron. Both mother and father died during the voyage to America, leaving their daughter in charge of young William Hoge, who placed her with relatives, the Johnsons, in New York City, while he decided to make his home in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on land owned by a Scotch company, at the head of which was Gov. Berkley, and of which he was a member.
    -
Later William Hoge returned to New York and married the girl Barbara Hume. After the birth of his first son, John, He and his wife made their home for some time in Chester Co., PA."
    -
Barbara and William later moved to Delaware ,and then to Chester Co, PA, East Nottingham Township, before 1735 to Frederick Co., Virginia , where they located about 2 to 3 miles south of Winchester on the Great Wagon Road.
    -
William Hoge died before August 8, 1749, when his will was filed and recorded in Frederick County Clerk's office. (Will Book 1, pp. 338-339)
