    Smith married HUBBEL, Ann 5 Sep 1827, Ogdensburg, Saint Lawrence County, New York. Ann was born Abt 1806, Glasgow, Scotland; died 29 May 1892, Ogdensburg, Saint Lawrence County, New York; was buried 29 May 1892, Ogdensburg Cemetery, Ogdensburg Saint Lawrence County, New York. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  HUBBEL, Ann was born Abt 1806, Glasgow, Scotland; died 29 May 1892, Ogdensburg, Saint Lawrence County, New York; was buried 29 May 1892, Ogdensburg Cemetery, Ogdensburg Saint Lawrence County, New York.

    Notes:

    Ann came from Scotland to America at age 13 (about 1819).
    -
    My hunch is that Ann was the daughter of Wolcott Hubbell and Mary Woolsey, or she was a close relation, or perhaps even adopted by them. This speculation begins with the fact that Ann and Smith named some of their children with traditional Hubbell names, for instance;
    1. Alfred A. was a name of one of the sons of Wolcott and Mary.
    2. Alida was a daughter of Wolcott and Mary.
    3. Wolcott was, of course, a family name.
    Wolcott however, was born in NY, not Scotland, and Mary was born in Massachusetts, not Ireland. All of this leads me to believe our Ann was most likely adopted. However proof has been elusive.
    -
    Ann was shown as being 44 years of age and born in Scotland in the 1850 census.
    -
    The 1870 Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence Co., New York census finds Ann age 64 "keeping house" and living with her family. Her real estate was estimated at $3,100 and personal property at $300. The census also confirms her birth in Scotland.
