Notes:

Joseph, eldest child of Walter Gaylord, was born at Windsor 13 May, 1649. He was married 14 July, 1670, to Sarah Stanley of Farmington, Connecticut. After his marriage Joseph Gaylord settled in Farmington, Connecticut. Some years later the family removed to Woodbury, Connecticut, which in 1700 was erected into the town of Waterbury. Later he became one of the first proprietors and patentees of Durham, Connecticut, where he died on 2 Feb., 1713.

Joseph married STANLEY, Sarah 17 Jul 1670, Windsor, Hatrford County, Connecticut. Sarah (daughter of STANLEY, John and SCOTT, Sarah) was born 18/18 Feb 1650/1651, Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut; died 12/12 Feb 1710/1711, Durham, Middlesex County, Connecticut. [Group Sheet]

Walter Gaylord, a child of "Deacon" William, was born in England in 1617, and accompanied his parents to Dorchester and to Windsor. He was married (1st) 22 April, 1648, to Mary, daughter of " Deacon" Edward and Frances((???)) Stebbings, or Stebbins, of Hartford, Conn. She died 29 June,1657, and he was married (2nd) to Sarah Rockwell 22 March, 1658. Walter Gaylord died at Windsor 9 Aug., 1689.

Notes:

John, Jr., was prominent in Farmington, Connecticut and saw service as Lieutenant and Captain in the Narragansett War, and died 19 Dec., 1706, leaving eight children. He was a son of John Stanley who died during his passage from England to America.

William Gaylord, or Gaillard, was born in Exeter, Devon, England in about 1585. His parents having emigrated there from Normandy, France some years before. He and his brother John came to America with a colony from Plymouth, Devonshire, England in the ship "Mary and John," which arrived at Nantasket, in Boston Bay, 30 May, 1630. William had been chosen Deacon of the Church organized by this colony at Plymouth in March, 1630, under the Revs. John Maverick and John Warham. These immigrants were pioneers in the settlment of Dorchester. "Deacon" Gaylord signed the first land grants in that town. His own grant was recorded in 1633. He served as Selectman of the town for several years, and in 1635/6 and 1638 and was Representative to the General Court. In 1638 he removed with Warham's company to the new town of Windsor, Conn., and between 1639 and 1664 he represented this town at fortyone semi-annual sessions of the General Assembly. He died at Windsor 20 July,1673. The name of his wife is not known. Stiles, in his "History of Windsor," says she died 20 June, 1657.
