    Notes from "Ancestors and Descendants of Joseph Rudd Jr" by Dorothy Rudd DuMond, 1982: First record is North America is at Hartford, CT on 2 Apr 1640 when he and other youths were before the court for being intimate with Mary Bronson. On 4 Jan 1643/4 he was fined in New Haven for defective arms and 3 months later for attending a drinking party. He took the oath of fidelity 1 Oct 1644. He was in Saybrook by the winter of 1646/7 and was made freeman of the CT Colony 15 May 1651. On 23 Feb 1652/3 he was appointed with Thomas Tracy to assist Capt. John Mason in fitting out the six great guns for the defense of Saybrook. This may be how he earned the title of Lieutenant. He was made leather sealer for Saybrook 4 Oct 1656. His probate record indicates he had 2 sons and 4 daughters.

    Notes from the Marvin genealogy:
    Offices in St. Mary's included sideman in 1621, overseer in 1627, and senior warden in 1628. Settled in Hartford probably November 1635. In Hartford he was surveyor of highways in 1639 and 1647, and gate keeper in 1641. He successfully sued Matthew Beckwith for defamation of character and won 50 pounds on 24 Apr 1649.
    He owned land in Farmington, CT near his brother but sold it before 1653. He was one of the first settlers of Norwalk, CT in 1650. He was a deputy in 1654.
