    Gershom Lockwood, born 6 Sep 1643, Watertown, Middlesex, MA, f ather Robert, mother Susannah. Gershom Lockwood, born 1680 in Watertown, father Jonathan, mother Mary Ferris. The latte r may be the correct person for this position. According to Mary Keeler Foster, Gershom is a brother of Joseph, bor n 1675. She gives Joseph as the father of Joseph Lockwood , husband of Sarah Hoyt.

    Info from James Churchyard, b 1666, d 1750, md 1st Elizabet h Ayres, 2nd Margery Webb, 3rd Susannah. Lockwood Genealogy, Harriet Hodge. Came to Poundridge in the spring of 1743 and died 1750; was interred in the Old Burial ground, age d 84, "according to the journal of his great-grandson, Ezr a Lockwood. Left issue by his first wife (Ayres) Joseph , John, Israel, Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary and Reuben--and by his second wife (Webb) Nathaniel and James. Joseph was named in the probate records of his father in 1693 and mother in 1707 and was administrator of his father's estate. He appears on the list of freemen of 30 Mar 1734. No probate record, but numerous deeds to children.

    Notes:

    Edmund Lockwood was apparently brought up by his uncle Robert Lockwood and probably came with him to CT about 1646.

    Edmund already owned land at Stamford before 8 Mar. 1650, the first mention of him in Stamford town meeting records. He is mentioned continuously subsequently, in deeds, as fence viewer, "pounder" and as a member of the surveying committees.

    He and his son John were on the 1687 list of proprietors. The inventory of his estate was taken 28 Feb. 1692/3 by Jonathan Bell , Sr. and Abraham Ambler. Administration was granted to the son Joseph Lockwood and to Jonas Weed, but the latter declined to act and Abraham Ambler, Sr. was appointed in his place.

    To New England, 1630, in "Arabella" with the Winthrop Fleet . md 2nd Elizabeth Masters. He first settled at Watertown and then at New Towne (Cambridge) where he was called " Mr.", a title of respect.
    He is among the first 8 inhabitant s of New Towne.
    He was made freeman 18 May 1631. He was constable at Cambridge in May 1632.
    In 1635 his brother Sgt. Robert Lockwood was appointed executor for Edmund' s estate and children.
    Name of first wife may have been Ruth. He married her in England before 1625. She perhaps died shortly after her arrival in America.

    Came in the Elizabeth of Ipswich April 30, 1634. Proprietor in Ipswich 1635, town officer, 1653.
