"Comfort Bailey may have had daughters named Hulda and Betsey. It is possible that Comfort had a second wife named Hulda Hempstead, .."
"The names of Comfort and Abigail (Lewis) Bailey appear on a list of members of the New Concord First Church of Christ in Chatham, Columbia, NY in 1781; however one Bailey researcher believes that this Comfort Bailey was a son of Samuel Bailey of Ponset, CT. Comfort and his brother, Amaziah, jointly leased 247 acre "East Manor Farm" in the Stephentown, NY area on 9 September 1790 (per: Van Rensselaer Manor Records). No further information has been found on Comfort, other then a statement by his grandson, John Udell III, which stated that his mother's parents (Comfort and wife) were devoted members of the Presbyterian church.
"One source suggests that Comfort was married secondly to a woman named Hulda Hempstead and had a daughter named Hulda, who married William Louis Devereaux (d. 1808) and 2nd to Timothy Nelson. The diary of Ansel Udell confirms that Ansel had cousins who were children of William Louis and Hulda (Bailey) Devereaux. Ansel also speaks of an aunt and uncle Danforth of Busti, NY, of whom I believe this aunt was Betsey, wife of Asa Danforth. No record has been found that gives her surname, but they did reside at Busti, NY near Hulda (Bailey) Devereaux Nelson's family. I have not been able to conclude which children of Comfort Bailey were born to Abigail Lewis and which were born to Hulda Hempstead, but, from examining the names of his children's children, one will notice that certain names, such as Abigail and Lewis, carry through some lines.
"A Tyringham, MA town record dated 22 May 1766, states that a committee had voted to build a school house on the northwardly end of house lot #43 on the county road at or near the place where BAILEY'S house stood. This school became known as Rock School and was located in what is not Monterey area and was where Abigail Lewis taught school in 1769 and at that time was boarding with Benjamin and Hannah (Lewis) Warren. Benjamin Warren's sister, Elizabeth, was married in 1764 to Isaac Brown and had a daughter, Permelia Brown, who married Levi Bailey, son of Comfort and Abigail (Lewis) Bailey."
