      In 1787 Tax List, Benjamin Suttles (sic) lived neighbor to Rev. War Soldier James Bates (1762-1825), who was son of Reuben Bates (1731-1801). This James Bates had daughter named Winifred Settle Bates b1795, who may have been orphan daughter of his sister Winifred (Bates) Settle, wife of Benjamin. In any event, Winifred Settle Bates b1795 was named in honor of her Aunt Winifred (Bates) Settle...
