Notes
!Richard and Margaret Haines are the emigrant ancestors. Her surname
is unknown.
!Richard Haines is the emigrant ancestor of the New Jersey and Penn-
sylvania Haines families. They were Quakers and came to America for
religious freedom. The oldest son, John Haines, preceded his family
to America. The father died at sea and the widow, Margaret Haines,
with the rest of the family settled in what is now Burlington County,
New Jersey. Much of the genealogy of this Haines family comes from
the two volume Haines genealogy compiled and published by John W.
Haines, New Jersey. Other material comes from various Quaker Monthly
Meeting records of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, etc. See
references for each family.
He died abord the ship Richard Diamond, "amity", Atlantic Ocean.
