Obituary: Again we note the work of the destroyer - death. Mrs. Rachel Darting departed this life Aug 8, 1889, at her home northeast of the Valley. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sion Murphy, was born in North Carolina Aug 29, 1821, so that at her death she was almost sixty-eight years old. She was married to Jacob Darting Jan 28, 1841 and for many years they have lived in this county. To them was born seven children, two of whom preceded the mother to the land of the blest. For twenty-four years the deceased had been an active member of the Christian Church. Mrs. Darting was well known as a woman of earnest endeavor, giving a mother's care and love to the suffering and needy. She will be greatly missed in the community but more in the home. A very large gathering of friends and relatives were present on Friday, when the funeral was preached, to show their respect for the deceased. She was buried in the cemetery near their home and quietly waits the coming of our blessed Lord.
