DIED. RAYBURN.--In Schell City, Missouri, March 19, 1893, suddenly, Mrs. J. W. Rayburn, aged 66 years. She was a sister of Wary Fortney, of Columbia, whose death which occurred two days previously was noted in the last issue of the HERALD.

Letter from Jane in Shell City to my Grandparents, John Hamilton & Samira Ann (Jones) Fortney. I will copy this letter exactly as she wrote it.
Shell City March 30/ 1889
Dear Brother and Sister
I this quite morning I will endever to rite you a few lines to let you hear from me I am well at preasant hoping this few lines may find you all well the family is all well well Brother I have not waited quite as long as you did beng well we have had a protrocted meeting have just closed But will start again the Second Sunday in April our preacher got sick it is Brother Isabell that had the care of the church at Bonefam thare was seven additions to the church all of them heds of famleys But too well Brother our garden is planted out that is apart of it our lettuce is up they will plant corn next week Barry will get thrue braking in one more day after to day we have had lots of rain this sprind grass is looking well Ann we have 11 young chickens and some more hens set well brother I will tell you my Son Joe and his family is in Calafania at the red bluffe in one of the county of the pacific ocean I never new he was goin until I got a card from his wife that they was thare had landed that eavening Annie father was the cause of them goin he had bin out thar last fall and liked that contrey and wanted to make that contrey his home and he lived with Joe and Annie and he told Joe he would pay all thair way thare if he would go it was like thunder to me when I got the card and I got a letter from Ed and his wife and they was down on the Kansas line waiting for the presadent proclamation so he could go in the okleynahomy to take him up a home they said it was a site to look at the grate numbers of people waiting for the to be spoke I do not know whare Wary is he started to go to hall on the rail road and I have not hird from him since that was about two months ago oh they have chattered fare from me when parants is raising children they give so much truble when they are trampping your toes we think they are truble a ful nuff but when they get to be men and comence scattering all over this Broad world and some that you never expect to see in this world agane that is truble
But the all seeing eye of god is thare if they was all good christane I would have hopes of seeing them again But god chan change them whare they are and that is my prayer to god is for them to be christian Joe is a church member and so is his wife write brother to me tell me all about the kind I hird green Easley had joined the camolite church well thare has been quite a change with our relation since I last ween you god help the good work hope it will role on untill god will call us home I hope to be permited to see you all once more give my love to your children and to sister Nancey and hir family tell hir to rite she told Clay that I was due her a letter I no that I rote hir a letter since I got one from hir Well I will close rite soon and often from your sister
