  Both of Elizabeth's parents were born in England. She was born in Maryland. Her maiden name was Carnes, however there is a record of a William H. Jones marrying an Elizabeth Correns in the Baltimore Sun newspaper in 1849. Also the 1850 census has a record of Elizabeth and William being married within 1 year prior to the census. There seems to be a strong connection between Elizabeth and her mother Charlotte, as they appear together from the 1860 through the1880 census. The 1850 census record shows Elizabeth's mother with the surname of Gains age 48. The census also shows what appears to be a brother of Elizabeth named George H. Gains, a Ship Carpenter age 21.
