  • Notes
    • Charles Howard the son of Thomas Cornelius Howard and Eleanor Ridgely his wife, was born at "Worthington's Range" in Queen Caroline Parish. In Baltimore County on April 10, 1766. He secured license to marry Elizabeth Hall. After the death of William Hall, father-in-law of Charles Howard, a lawsuit developed over his estate. In 1796 Edward Hall, brother to Elizabeth (Hall) Howard, advised the court that his brother, William Hall, lived in Montgomery County near John Snowden's place not far from Thomas Howard, the father of Charles Howard of Frederick County, that his brother Baruch Hall lived in Frederick and worked with Mr. Wolfe, a millright, and believed that he lived at the home of Charles Howard, that Elizabeth Godman, a granddaughter of William Hall, had left the home of Charles Howard and was living at the home of her father's sisters in Prince George's County. Charles Howard died intestate in Frederick Co., Maryland. The appraisement of his personal estate was made on May 24, 1824, with Grafton Howard and Baruch Hall approving as the kinsmen and Thomas Hall Howard as the administrator. The estate was distributed on August 16, 1827, to the following representatives: Eli P. House, Basil Simpson, William Plummer, Thomas Howard, Edward Howard, Henry Howard, Isaac Howard, Mary Ann Howard, Sarah Howard, Eleanor Howard, Grafton Howard, and the widow, Elizabeth Howard. A case was presented in Chancery during 1833 over the estate of Thomas W. Howard who died intestate and without issue. It was stated that Charles Howard after the death of his elder brother, Henry, without issue became the heir-at-law. In 1855 Charles Howard was deceased leaving Thomas H. Howard as his son and heir, Edward, Henry, Grafton, Isaac, Elizabeth who married William Plummer, Mary, and Eleanor who married John Darby. The estate of his widow was distributedon May 5, 1856, by her son and administrator, Thomas Howard, to the following: Thomas Howard, the accountant; Elizabeth Plummer; Edward Howard; Grafton Howard; Mary Ann Howard, Eleanor Darby; Isaac Hall Howard; Elizabeth and Eli House, children of Anne House, deceased; and Jahanna and Charles Simpson, children of Martha Simpson, deceased. The estate of the unmarried son, Henry Howard, had been distributed on September 1, 1835, by Isaac H. Howard, and divided among the same heirs as that of the mother's estate.
