Notes |
- (1833 Baltimore Dir.)
There was a Charles Carnes listed as a Seaman, living on Alice Anna St., near Happy Alley.
-
(1835, at 61 Alice Anna St.) It seems likely that Charlotte was a seamstress as she was listed in the Baltimore directories as such.
She was also listed as widow of William Carnes.
-
(1842 Baltimore Dir.)
Charlotte Carnes, E. side Happy Alley, S. of Fleet St.
-
(1845 Baltimore Dir.)
Charlotte Carnes, Seamstress 215 Wolfe St.
-
The 1850 census shows:
Charlotte "Gains" (actually Carnes) 48, living with her son George H. Carnes, 21,
newly married daughter Elizabeth Jones, 17,
and son-in-law William Jones, 24.
-
An interesting note here is the next door neighbor Mary J. (Himey, Himing?) age 23, had children named:
Samuel, 5
Charlotte, 4
William G., 2
She may be a relation.
-
The 1864 directory shows the following:
Mrs. Charlotte Carnes, SW. corner Washington and Pratt.
-
Charlotte Carnes is recorded on Death Certificate # A8973 (Volume: 9, Page: 301, Year: 1888).
Death Certificate stated she was a Baltimore resident for 60 years in 1888, indicating the family was in Baltimore about 1828.
