    • Jacob Runkle sailed from Rotterdam, Holland aboard the "Hampshire" when he was 27 years old.
      -
      He took the oath of allegiance on September 7, 1748 (Pensylvania Pioneers, by Straussberger, vol. 1, pp. 373-375).
      -
      By 1758 Jacob and his family are located in Augusta Co., Virginia, among the German Swiss in that part of eastern Virginia, he was being paid for his service in the county militia during the French and Indian War (Virginia Gleanings, p. 40).

      In 1763 Jacob purchased 225 acres of land near what is now Antelope Post-Office, in Rockingham County, Virginia, where he spent the remainder of his days. (Chalkey's Augusta County Records, vol. 3, p. 537).

      NOTE: Portions of Augusta co. were distributed to Rockingham co. in 1778.
