Watts Family, P. 92
-
Thomas Watts, born A1640; died C1674.
We identify this man as one of the earlier Thomas Watts men found in Stafford Co., Va., at about the time his brother, Edward Watts, appeared there.
In the old Stafford Co., Va., order books, there is a record of the administration of the estate of a Thomas Watts in that county in 1690. The corresponding entry in the Will Book has been lost or destroyed, and the meager entry in the Order Book is of little help.
We prefer to rely on the more complete data in the following entry there:
4/7/1690 - In suit of Sampson Darrell vs. Simon Stacey in Stafford Co.,
Va., mention is made of Thomas Watts who had married Frances
Norgrave, daughter of Captain John Norgrave. This recites
that Thomas Watts had then been dead 16yyears, making his
death 1674. (See Stafford Order Book data in Vol. XLIV No.
4, October 1936, Virginia Magazine of History and Biography,
John Norgraves widow, Frances, married Dr. Edward Maddocks,

after she had first wed Captain George Mason).
5/14/1670 - Thomas Watts named in headright in Rappahannock County, Virginia.
(Valentine's Papers, Vol. 3, page 1600).
11/29/1674 - Thomas Watts, named in headright on South Side of the Rappahannock
River. (Valentine's Papers, Vol. 3, page 1601).
The record of a deed recorded in Stafford by the listed son of this man seems to verify his residence there.
He married Frances Norgrave. She was the daughter of Captain John Norgrave and Frances (???). After the death of Frances Norgrave Watts' father, her mother married Captain George Mason, and, after his death, Dr. Edward Maddocks.
Thomas Watts had:
*200 - Thomas Watts, born C1675; died A1704.
