  Canton Commercial Advertiser Tuesday, August 25, 1942 Stephen Van Sant, Russell Farmer, Passes Stephen Van Sant, a native of the town of DeKalb but long time resident of the town of Russell, passed away at 9:30 Wednesday night at the home of Harry Niles, South Russell, where he had made his home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the South Russell Community Church, the Rev. Raymond Downs, pastor of the DeGrasse Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was made in South Russell Cemetery. Mr. Van Sant was born in DeKalb on April 1, 1866, a son of Richard and Joanna Collins Van Sant. Early in life he married Miss Eva Lane, who died several years ago. There remain, a brother, Joseph Van Sant of DeGrasse; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank (Blanche) Premo of Gouverneur and several nieces and nephews.
