  Major General John Ellis Wool, U.S. Army, veteran of three major wars;1812; Mexican; & Civil . As a young man he ran a book store and read law for a year. Made Major General in 1862 and retired from service on August 1, 1863 at the age of 79 having served 52 years. John & Sarah had no children. It is believed John was the oldest Union Civil War General to serve.
