    [Chavez.FTW]

Antonio Montoya and his wife, Maria Hurtado, were witnesses for the wedding of Andres Hurtado (her brother) and Antonia Dominguez at Guadalupe del Paso (now Cuidad Juarez, Mexico] in 1689. [DM, 1689, No. 2].

They returned home with Vargas four years later with a large increase over the three children of 1680. In 1707, by then a Captain, Antonio gave his age as sixty, and sixty-six in 1715. [DM, 1707, No. 2; DM, 1715, No. 6].

In 1716 he took part in the Moqui campaign with the Santa Fe militia. [Spanish Archives, II, no. 250].

A 1704 suit shows that his father had owned land in Santa Fe before the Rebellion. [Spanish Archives, I, No. 481].

Antonio died before 1725, the year his widow made her last will. He had been mayordomo, in Vargas' name, of the confraternity of La Conquistadora in 1969. [OLC, pp 8, 64-5, 74-5].

In her last testament, Maria Hurtado declared that she and Antonio had been married for forty-six years, and then named their children: Juan Antonio, Andres, Angela, Juana, Antonia, Nicolasa, Antonio, Manuela, Tomasa, and Maria. She also mentioned a grandson, Miguel Ortiz. She died on March 22, 1726, and was buried in the Conquistadora Chapel of Santa Fe.

Of these children, Andres married Antonia Lucero, and then Maria Sisneros; Antonio is very likely the man of this name whose young wife, Catalina de Ribera, died early in June 1727. Of the girls, Juana married Francisco Palomino Rendon in 1693, and then Juan Manuel Chirinos in 1710; and Maria became the wife of Miguel de la Vega y Coca in 1699.

Antonio married DE SALAS, Maria Hurtado Abt 1680. Maria died 22/22 Mar 1725/1726; was buried Mar 1725/6, Conquistadora Chapel, Santa Fe, Province of New Mexico. [Group Sheet]

From "The Spanish Recolonization of New Mexico" by Jose Antonio Esquibel and John B. Colligan:
María Manuela García de la Riva was married on 25 April 1700, Bernalillo, New Mexico, to Salvador Montoya, son of Diego Montoya and Josefa de Hinojos. This family resided in the Bernalillo area and then eventually relocated to Santa Fe. In 1715, Salvador was a Regent of the Kingdom and a member of the Confraternity of La Conquistadora. Salvador made out his will at Santa Fe on April 27, 1727. At this time he was a Regidor of Santa Fe. In his will he named his children by María Manuela as Jose Francisco Montoya, Miguel Jose Montoya, Manuel Antonio Montoya, Francisca Montoya and Josefa Montoya. Salvador stated in his will that when he married María Manuela, as a dowry, María's parent gave her a tract of land called El Torreón situated below Bernalillo with the Río Grande as its eastern boundary and reaching to the Río Puerco on the west, half of which Salvador later sold to Juan Antonio Jaramillo. One hundred breeding ewes and some household furniture were included in the dowry. Salvador mentioned that he and his brother-in-laws, Juan García de la Riva and Juan Páez Hurtado, were given some land in Santa Fe by Micaela de Velasco. His estate in 1727 consisted of a house on San Francisco Street located in front of the one built by General don Felix Martinez, a parcel of land on the other side of the Santa Fe river, a ranch at El Río de Tesuque that he had purchased from Pedro Montes Vigil, and additional land inherited along with his eight siblings from his father.

Salvador Montoya died around 1727 in Santa Fe.
