1st Obtaining goods under false pretenses from W. H. Whitney of Gouverneur.
2nd Betting on the Montreal boat race
3rd Failing to meet his engagement in regard to the note of G.W. Burt
4th Crime of lying.
The committee unaminously found him guilty on all the specifications. The committee reported that he ought to be expelled from the church - and on the same evening he was declared expelled by James A. Dickson, Pastor of the church.
As Mr. M.B. Collins was (illegible) from the class room he threatened to whip brother Burt.

Funeral to Be Held From Home of Her Son, Joseph VanSant, DeGrasse, Sunday at 2 P.M. With the burial in South Russell Cemetery.
Russell, December 27, (1935).---Mrs. Joanna Collins VanSant, Age (93), widow of Richard Van Sant, Civil War veteran, died Thurdsay at 9 a.m. at the home of her son, Joseph Van Sant at DeGrasse. Mrs. Van Sant had been confined to the bed for several weeks.
Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. Leonard Mathewson officiating. Burial will be at South Russell, cemetery.
Mrs. VanSant was born Dec. 3, 1842, and was united in marriage to Richard Van Sant Oct. 20, 1856, at Rome. They resided at Silver Hill, near South Russell, nearly all their married life.
Five children were born to them. Three of whom survive, Stephen of Russell, George of Edwards and Joseph of DeGrasse, with whom she had resided since her husband died in 1913. Besides the three sons she is survived by eleven grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Stephen Van Sant, Russell Farmer, Passes
Stephen Van Sant, a native of the town of DeKalb but long time resident of the town of Russell, passed away at 9:30 Wednesday night at the home of Harry Niles, South Russell, where he had made his home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the South Russell Community Church, the Rev. Raymond Downs, pastor of the DeGrasse Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was made in South Russell Cemetery.
Mr. Van Sant was born in DeKalb on April 1, 1866, a son of Richard and Joanna Collins Van Sant. Early in life he married Miss Eva Lane, who died several years ago.
There remain, a brother, Joseph Van Sant of DeGrasse; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank (Blanche) Premo of Gouverneur and several nieces and nephews.20. VAN SANT, George A. Mr. VanSant was born in Oneida County, he spent most of list life farming in russell. On July 3, 1889, he married the former Miss Ida MacBrundage in the parsonage of the russell Methodist Church. He died at age 85. Also, he was a former Republican Committeman of the town of Russell.

Joseph and Ida cared for his widowed mother in her latter days and helped her procure her Civil War Widow's Pension.

In one letter Joseph wrote to the Treasury Department, he relates the fact that his home had burned in about 1934, and the family had lost everything, with no insurance. His plea was for burial expences for his mother.
