    On a 1906 surgeon's certificate in his pension file it is stated Frederick was a Jeweler before he became disabled.

    On March 17, 1908 Frederick had begun to show signs of memory loss, and moved away from home into the Southern Branch National Home For Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Elizabeth City Co., Virginia, where he could find appropriate treatment & care. Sarah stated in a pension affadavit that she was living with her children's families and they couldn't take care of both of them.

    The 1910 census at Elizabeth City, Chesapeake Co., Virginia, (Roll 1627 Book 2, Page 89b, line 71), finds Frederick living at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
    He stated he was a white male, 70 years of age, and married for 40 years. He indicated his father born in Pennsylvania, his mother in New Jersey, and he was born in New Jersey.

    Per pension files Frederick died of Chronic Interstitial Nephritis, or "kidney failure". He was 74 years old. Sarah stated she attended his funeral at the Soldiers Home.

    On November 14, 1913 Sarah made a widow's application for Frederick's Civil War pension. The application stated he had served with Company B of the 90th. Pennsylvania Infantry (App. 1017,323, Cert. 769.779, PA).
