Charles registered for the WWI draft in Butte Co., California. He stated his birth date as 10 Sept. 1895.

The 1920 Census of Chico Township, Precinct 6, Butte Co., California shows Charles age 24, and his wife Rosa age 22, along with a son Jackie age 2 1/2. Charles indicated he was a truck driver. (ED. 8, P. 10A).

Charles, age 34, was living in Nelson, Butte Co., California in 1930. The census that year indicated that he was a farm laborer and was renting a home for $5 a month. He was married to Rosa, age 31 who was also born in California. Their son Charles Ackley Jr. was 7 months old at the time the census was taken. Apparently Rosa had been previously been married and her son Jackie Keeler, age 12, was living with them.
