Harold Wise, Akron, dies Harold Marion Wise, 84, died Wednesday at home in Akron.
Wise was born May 3, 1920, in Oto, Iowa, to Arthur and Rickie (Schultz) Wise. He attended Oto schools and moved to Akron in 1934 and attended Akron High School. He married Iola Lundquist on June 1, 1941. He owned and operated a gas station and appliance store in Akron.
In 1942, he went to Hawaii to work on the construction of huge underground oil storage tanks for the Navy. He returned to Colorado in 1943 and joined the Army Air Force. He served with the 15th Air Force and flew 23 missions as a tail gunner in a B-17 bomber. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Akron and in 1959 went into the lightweight aggregate business, which took him and his family to Arvada, Puerto Rico and Alabama. He and his family returned to Akron in 1968, and he worked for Bill's Carpet and Furniture and the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1986.
He was a charter member of the Akron VFW Post 8064 and served as its first post commander. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Akron Lions Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Wise is survived by his wife, Iola; his children, Debbie Rodriguez and Maury Wise, both of Akron, and David Wise of Denver; five sisters, Ethel Wise, Edna Barcal, Alice Alexander, Myrtle Egger and Betty Guida; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Wayne and Arthur.
Memorial contributions in Wise's memory may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron with Pastor Andrew Dimit officiating. Interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery with the Akron Veterans Posts performing military rites.
