  Mr. VanSant was born in Oneida County, he spent most of list life farming in russell. On July 3, 1889, he married the former Miss Ida MacBrundage in the parsonage of the russell Methodist Church. He died at age 85. Also, he was a former Republican Committeman of the town of Russell. - Joseph and Ida cared for his widowed mother in her latter days and helped her procure her Civil War Widow's Pension. - In one letter Joseph wrote to the Treasury Department, he relates the fact that his home had burned in about 1934, and the family had lost everything, with no insurance. His plea was for burial expences for his mother.
