At the commencement of the War of 1812 he went to Albany and enlisted and served it's duration in Roger's Regiment of the New York Militia (Roll 204, Extract 602).

Talman, Nathan E. was listed in The Albany Directory on June 1, 1814.
In 1815 he moved his family to Oswegatchie and lived there the rest of his life.
